Portland Community College engaged Hennebery Eddy to prepare a campus master plan of their new center on a 15-acre site in Newberg. Our master plan addressed the surrounding residential neighborhood by creating an intentionally permeable edge that is welcoming the community. It establishes future open spaces, a central quad, pedestrian systems, parking, and sites for six academic buildings. Parking efficiently stretches the length of the site, maximizing spaces and minimizing the distance to the building entries. The plan addresses site circulation, building orientation, constructability of future phases, and maintenance. A required roadway extension was designed to slow traffic with narrow lanes, a turnaround, and planted median strip to make biking safe to the center’s entry. Subsequent to the master plan, Hennebery Eddy designed the first phase of campus development, consisting of a 13,500-square-foot, LEED Platinum academic and administration building and associated parking.
